Sony PS5 Pro Faster GPU, Better Ray-Tracing, System Memory: Report

Tech outlet The Verge revealed the upcoming console’s specifications on Sony PS5 Pro  Tuesday, reporting that Sony is set to launch the latest version of the PlayStation 5 later this year.

The upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro console is said to be codenamed Trinity and will feature a better GPU, higher clock speeds for the CPU and better rendering of games with ray tracing enabled.

The report says that Sony is encouraging developers to use Sony PS5 Pro  additional graphics features like ray tracing. Additionally, games may use the “Trinity Enhanced” label if the developers have provided significant improvements.

The company expects developers to release games that support the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles as a bundle, allowing PS5 Pro titles to be bundled together for greater performance.

The PS5 Pro’s GPU rendering capabilities are expected to be 45% faster than the standard PlayStation 5. The GPU in the upcoming console will be larger and use faster system memory to help achieve better ray tracing.

The company uses an advanced ray tracing architecture in the PS5 Pro, which allows for three times the speed compared to the regular PS5.

As for the CPU, it’s the same as the standard PS5, but Sony PS5 Pro  with a new mode that offers higher speeds. The PS5 Pro is a mod that targets a CPU frequency of 3.85GHz, which means it’s 10% faster than the regular PS5. For reference, a typical PS5’s CPU runs at 3.5GHz.

As for the system memory, compared to the standard PS5 memory that runs at 448GB/s, Sony increases it by 28% to 576GB/s in the PS5 Pro.

PS5 Pro comes with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) feature that improves frame rates and image quality. The company has developed a custom framework for machine learning on PlayStation 5 Pro that supports 300TOPS 8-bit calculations.
